Crown of Thorns
The Romans once placed the Crown of Thorns upon Jesus’ head, mocking him as the “King of the Jews.” Little did they realize he would become the King of Kings to millions, across oceans, spanning millennia.
Arrested by the Romans, tried by Pontius Pilate, struck with fists, flogged, spat upon, and finally dressed with a crown of thorns, Jesus endured unspeakable pain and degradation even before He was put on the cross. Aside from the cross, the Crown of Thorns stands out as one of the most significant images of the crucifixion. His condemners and non-believers had meant it not only to inflict suffering, but also humiliation. And though it first adorned his head as a painful taunt, the Crown of Thorns now lives on as an uplifting and hopeful symbol of His sacrifice for our absolution of sin.
