Prairie Dog Gold Select
Populating the open grasslands and plains of the American West in large numbers, Prairie Dogs are short-tailed, squirrel-like rodents.
Renowned for their ability to create elaborate and extensive tunnel dwellings, Prairie Dogs spend most of their time burrowed underground, escaping the extreme temperatures that characterize their habitat. A highly gregarious animal, Prairie Dogs live together in large communities called "towns," which cover hundreds of acres. Typically weighing 2-3 pounds, they average between 12 to 15 inches in length. Prairie Dogs typically favor grass and small, leafy plants, but also consume roots and seeds as part of their diet during the cold winter months.
This coin features a detailed depiction of a Prairie Dog on its obverse. Bordered by a classic wreath design, the reverse contains a space for engraving.
Minted in two Troy ounces of .999 pure silver, this coin is selectively plated in 24-karat gold. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, each piece comes sealed in a durable Lucite capsule and mounted in a museum-quality leatherette presentation box.
