coin packaging5th Marine Division: The Spearhead

This brass coin salutes the 5th Division of the U.S. Marines. Struck in a brass alloy, this coin has an attractive use of enamel, making a striking impression. The reverse contains the logo of the Marines set in a semitransparent red enamel that allows the look of radiance. The coin comes packaged in a polybag with a header card.

The 5th Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps was created during World War II for the Battle of Iwo Jima and the planned invasion of the Japanese home islands. It was reactivated in 1966 and served in the Vietnam War.

On 19 February 1945, the Fifth assaulted the island of Iwo Jima with other elements of the Vth Marine Amphibious Corps. Exposed to the full fury of the enemy's defenses, Marines of the 5th clawed their way forward a yard at a time. Across Motoyama Airfield #1, up Mount Suribachi, and then into the badlands of the Motoyama Plateau, the Fifth fought and died.

This coin honors the Spearhead's valiant fighting spirit and legacy of bravery and sacrifice in protecting America's freedom against crushing odds in any part of the world.

This coin is minted in a brass alloy and coated with an antique bronze finish. Emblazoned with the 5th Marine Division insignia, with the Marine emblem on the reverse surrounded by translucent red enamel.
